A Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, has been freed from the hands of the Benin authorities.
The insurgent said last Sunday he was legally free to leave Cotonou, the capital of Benin Republic for Nigeria and other countries.

Now I can assure you that I am now free to return to Nigeria. There is no legal dispute anymore. Although I have been living in Cotonou for a long time, I can truly assure you that I am now free to leave Cotonou for Nigeria,” Adeyemo told the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday.
He was free again two years after the government of Benin imprisoned him in its country.
PUNCH newspaper reported that Adeyemo stirred up controversy when he declared Yoruba state in March 2021.
He started a campaign to expel herdsmen and kidnappers from the South-West states, and he called on the Yoruba in the Hausa/Fulani or Igbo region to return home.
However, he fled Nigeria in July 2021 after officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invaded his home in Ibadan at night.
The attack caused the death of at least one person, while some of his belongings were destroyed.
The DSS claimed that seven AK-47 rifles, pump guns, 5,000 rounds of ammunition, bullets and other weapons were recovered from his house during the raid.
