The Kano State government has married 1,800 women and their 1,800 brides which it took months to prepare.
Since his ascension to power, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the state has announced that he will marry women who are not wealthy, by providing them with all the things a woman needs in a marriage house and by providing them with welfare.
The couple were married in some Friday mosques in all 44 local governments across the state.
At the Central Mosque of the Emir of Kano's palace only about 300 people were married which was Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the chief Commandants of Hisbah Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, who was the leader of the service were present.
Senator Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, is the guardian of the groom while Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is the guardian of the bride on a dowry of 50,000 naira for each bride.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi ,was among those who attended the wedding.
In an interview with TRT Afrika two days before the wedding ceremony, Hisbah Commander Sheikh Daurawa said that five of the seven stages of the wedding have already been completed.
"The process of marrying widows and young women is nearing its end. Seven steps have been taken and five have been achieved so far," said Malam Daurawa in an interview with TRT Afrika, two days before the wedding.
